On Thursday, June 20 VNA East will offer health screenings for adults from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.  at the Russell Mercier Senior Center at 14 Stonecroft Drive in Hebron.

This includes taking blood pressure measurements, cholesterol and blood glucose screenings, information about foot care and removal of ear wax.

The blood pressure measurement is free, but other services have a small fee.

The new wait-time link can be found at ct.gov/dmv

It shows the waiting times that start after someone receives a numbered ticket that puts them in a queue for a certain service.

Staff from the Town of Hebron assessor’s office will be conducting field inspects now through July 31, 2013. Anyone who has taken out a building permit since Oct. 1, 2012 or who has an outstanding building permit for unfinished construction can expect an in-person inspection.

The inspector’s vehicle will be marked Assessor’s Office and the staff member will be wearing an identification tag.

They are:
8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays
8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays

There are a number of openings on boards and commissions in Hebron and therefore, several opportunities for you to become involved in town government.

There are a number of openings on boards and commissions in Hebron and therefore, several opportunities for you to become involved in town government.

There are currently vacancies for regular members on the:

  • Conservation Commission
  • Economic Development Commission
  • Historic Properties Commission
  • Public Building Committee
  • Water Pollution Control Authority
  • Housing Authority

There also are vacancies to be filled for alternate members on the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Economic Development Commission.

And the Charter Revision Commission has four seats still open.

If you’re interested in any of these seats, and are a registered voter and resident of Hebron, please send a letter of interest to: Hebron Town Manager, 15 Gilead St., Hebron CT 06428.

Commencement exercises were held at the XL Center in Hartford, CT on May 14.

Carlotta Walls LaNier, the youngest member of the “Little Rock Nine,” gave the Commencement address.

Opening day of the Trout Fishing Season is Saturday, April 20 and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has the state’s rivers, streams, lakes and ponds stocked and ready.

Approximately 381,000 trout have already been released this spring into 102 lakes and ponds and 200 rivers and streams throughout Connecticut and are awaiting Opening Day anglers.

DEEP’s spring trout-stocking effort began in early March and will continue through the end of May. When spring stocking is completed, DEEP expects to have stocked about 630,000 trout.

Official groundbreaking ceremonies for a dedicated, new practice facility for the University of Connecticut’s championship men’s and women’s basketball programs were held Tuesday (April 16) on the site of the facility’s home behind Gampel Pavilion on the Storrs campus.

The event, which occurred a week after the Huskies brought home their eighth national title, tying Tennessee for the most wins in women’s basketball history, was attended by officials from the University, the UConn Foundation, by alumni and donors and by several present and former players, as well as students.

“This is a landmark day for UConn,” said UConn President Susan Herbst. “Our coaches and athletes have made UConn basketball the envy of the nation. They earned this facility with their hard work and their dedication.”
