PUPPET SLAM at UConn poster Feb 9 2013This weekend, UConn Puppet Slams presents an exciting array of bold new works for puppet theater by vibrant puppet artists from New York City, Boston and the University of Connecticut – presented by The Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry (BIMP) and The University of Connecticut Puppet Arts Program.

The popular UConn Puppet Slam series of exciting new works for puppetry will present its next installment from 8-10 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 in a free performance at the Studio Theater in the Drama and Music Building on UConn’s Main Campus.

This exciting array of short-form puppetry will feature professional puppeteers from the Northeast and new works by students from UConn’s famed Puppet Arts Program.

The UConn Winter Puppet Slam will include Great Small Works’ toy theater spectacle “Living Newspaper”; an excerpt from Spybird Theater‘s new production “Eye of the Storm,” performed by Jana Zeller, and featuring the classic German hand-puppet figures Kasper and Gretel; and new works by Jim Napolitano of Nappy’s Puppets and Hartford puppeteer S.B. Parks!

The UConn Winter Puppet Slam will also include new puppet productions by Puppet Arts students including Penny Benson, Carianne Hoff, Seth Shaffer, Sarah Nolen, Anna Fitzgerald, Sarah Hall, and Dana Samborski.

The event is free but donations are greatly appreciated!

This event is sponsored by the Puppet Slam Network, a supporter of exciting innovations in puppetry across the United States.
