UConn student charged in drug operation

police2University of Connecticut police arrested and charged a university student for operating a drug factory out of his dorm room.

Shane Lanan, 19, of 22 Hobson Ave., Windsor, was arrested by police Thursday morning at approximately 6:39 a.m.

Lanan was charged with sixth-degree larceny, misrepresentation of a substance as a controlled substance, second-degree forgery, use of drug paraphernalia, two counts of sale of a controlled substance, operation of a drug factory, two counts of a possession of a hallucinogen, three counts of sale of certain illegal drugs, possession of narcotics and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

According to police, they executed a search-and-seizure warrant for Room 122 in UConn’s Litchfield Hall.

UConn’s online student and staff directory confirms Lanan is a UConn student and resides in Litchfield Hall – which is part of North Campus.

During the search, police seized approximately 20 grams of marijuana, 18.5 grams of mushrooms, 13 pills of suboxone, two pills of Clonazepam, 26 doses of LSD, 10 unidentifiable “purple pills,” a digital scale, a large marijuana smoking bong, a package of rolling papers, packaging material for illegal distribution, two hypodermic needles and $168.

Also, police said Lanan was in possession of a stolen street road sign that belonged to the university and a fake Utah license with falsified information.

Lanan was held on $100,000 and presented to Rockville Superior Court Thursday. He is due back in court Oct. 28 at 10 a.m.
