Enrollment way up at community college
The fall 2009 semester at Quinebaug Valley Community College started with a record 2,110 students enrolled at the Danielson campus and Willimantic Center.
The college continues the trend of double-digit growth since the fall of 2004 with a 22.6 percent increase.
Again this year, the Town of Windham represents the highest enrollment with 364 students.
“The majority of this year’s new traditional-aged students are enrolled in the Liberal Arts and Sciences Transfer Degree, a clear indication that QV’s learners are focused on the future and taking full advantage of the UConn Guaranteed Admissions Program and the new Connecticut State University Compact Program,” QVCC Dean of Learning and Student Development Susan D. Huard Ph.D. said. “Additionally, we are seeing an upturn in the number of older students enrolling in career-oriented programs ranging from computer networking to medical assisting to technology studies.”
This fall marks the start of the second year of the Quinebaug Valley Middle College High School.
“Our classrooms are full with college students, our middle college high school students, and GED students as well,” Huard said. “This year, the middle college has grown to 70 students, having added the 11th-grade. More than 10 percent of these students are enrolled in a college course as part of their studies.”
