pcrandellPrudence Crandall returns to life in a re-enactment at the next meeting of the Hebron Historical Society.

Donna Dufresne will perform her own one-woman play about Crandall, who is the Connecticut State Heroine. Crandall  opened New England’s first private academy for young black women in Canterbury, Connecticut in 1831.

She then stood trial in a landmark legal case as her white neighbors tried to make the operation of her school illegal. Ultimately Crandall prevailed.

Dufresne’s show will be held at the Old Hebron Town Hall, located at 24 Main Street, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Refreshments will be provided.

Admission is free but donations are welcomed.
