Hartford man charged in Hebron bank robbery
The man arrested for allegedly robbing the New Alliance Bank in Hebron was arraigned in court Monday.
Alvin Austin Robertson, 47, of 7 Woodland St., Hartford, was charged with third-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, second-degree breach of peace and improper use of a license plate.
According to the state Department of Justice, Robertson was still being held on $95,000 bail as of this morning, a $5,000 reduction from the bond police issued upon his arrest, and he is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court Oct. 5.
State police from Troop K in Colchester said they received a call Friday around 6 p.m. reporting a robbery at the bank, located on Route 66.
Police said they then put out a notification describing the Robertson’s car, and a state trooper, along with the Andover resident trooper, located Robertson traveling northbound on Route 316 in Andover.
The two troopers were able to stop Robertson’s vehicle without incident, at which point they arrested him Friday night.
State police also brought a canine to the scene, and the dog was able to help police locate the stolen money.
The incident was the second robbery at a local bank this summer, as a New Alliance Bank in Columbia was the target of another effort in July.
James Moore, 45, of 120 Risley St., East Hartford, was arrested in that incident on charges of first-degree robbery, third-degree larceny, threatening and breach of peace.
The Rockville Superior Court’s clerk’s office and the Department of Justice did not have any information on the status of Moore’s case this morning.
State police said Moore entered the New Alliance Bank on Route 66 in Columbia around 1:15 p.m. July 13 and demanded cash, but did not imply or display a weapon.
State police they arrested Moore a little more than six hours after finding him “a short distance from the scene” and took him into custody without incident and transported him to Troop K in Colchester.
Town officials in Columbia quickly moved forward on their plans to alert residents of emergencies after residents complained about not being notified about the robbery.
