The Jonathan Trumbull Jr. House has opened an important exhibit of 19th and 18th century coverlets from the collection of Lebanon resident Jude Fera, a board member at the National Museum of the American Coverlet in Pennsylvania.

Here at the Trumbull House, she hangs an 1814 coverlet that was made in Lebanon over a tricolor coverlet from Maine.

These unique early American bed covers are hand-woven on looms, rather than pieced and sewn together like quilts.

On exhibit will be between 20 and 25 examples that were made in varied patterns and colors.

Admission is free and the exhibit runs through Aug. 23.

Wife and I went to this exhibit last year. I always thought her obsession with coverlets was ridiculous until I saw Ms. Fera’s collection. What a delight! The graphic impact, color, and design of these geometric coverlets was striking. I now have one mounted and hung on the wall in my (no-smoking)den; it is striking and masculine, in a way. Must admit, I’ve become a convert!
